About Squintly
What is Squintly?
Squintly is a Korean beauty-inspired Android app that helps you notice facial habits you may not realize you're making, specifically eye squinting and brow furrowing. You start a monitoring session, keep using your phone normally, and Squintly gives you a gentle vibration when it notices sustained squinting or brow tension. It's developed by REVLOOM LLC.
Is Squintly available on iPhone?
No. Squintly is currently available for Android only, through Google Play. There's no iPhone or iPad version.
Is Squintly free?
Squintly is free to download from Google Play and includes in-app purchases, offered as a Squintly Pro subscription. Subscriptions are sold and processed by Google Play. For current pricing and what's included, check the Google Play listing and the app itself. Subscription terms are described in the Terms of Service.
How it works
How does Squintly detect squinting?
While a session is active, Squintly uses your phone's front camera and analyzes your facial movements on the device. It compares them with your personal calibration, which describes how your face looks when relaxed and when expressive. When it notices squinting or brow furrowing that's sustained rather than momentary, it sends a gentle vibration.
You can adjust the detection sensitivity to suit you. Because it's camera-based, Squintly needs your face to be visible to the front camera to notice expressions.
Does Squintly work while using other apps?
Yes. Once you start monitoring, Squintly keeps running in the background while you switch to other apps and everyday tasks. Android shows a persistent notification while monitoring is active, so you'll always know when it's on.
Can I adjust the reminders?
Yes. Squintly lets you fine-tune detection sensitivity, the nudge delay, and the strength of the vibration (haptics), so reminders feel right for you.
Privacy & camera
Does Squintly use my camera?
Yes. Squintly uses your device's front camera, but only while calibration, a face check, or monitoring is active. It doesn't record video and doesn't save photographs of you. Camera frames are held in memory only for the moment they're analyzed and aren't written to storage. Squintly also doesn't use facial recognition or create face templates.
Does facial data leave my device?
No. According to the REVLOOM privacy policy, neither camera images nor the facial landmarks derived from them are uploaded. Squintly doesn't request Android's internet permission, and REVLOOM operates no server that receives your Squintly information.
What Squintly does keep (your calibration values, monitoring history, progress, and settings) stays on your device. Squintly also disables Android's cloud backup for its private app data. The app contains no advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs.
Skin & expectations
Can Squintly prevent wrinkles?
No, and we won't claim it can. Squintly is a habit-awareness tool, not a medical device or a cosmetic treatment, and it doesn't promise to prevent, treat, or reduce wrinkles or produce any physical or cosmetic result.
What it can do is help you notice repetitive squinting and brow tension that you'd otherwise miss. Dermatologists note that repeatedly contracting the same facial muscles over many years can contribute to lasting lines (American Academy of Dermatology), and many other factors, like sun exposure and natural aging, play a role too.
